BCM-C002166 - Brake Booster Performance. Algorithm Based Failures. Signal has too many transitions / events

What does this fault code mean?
On the V60, the brake control module (BCM) has received too many signal changes from the brake booster's own test signal. The test signal is used both to calibrate the booster's performance and to monitor that it works. The fault is most often due to the weather: in very cold outside air the brake booster cannot be activated as it should.
Possible causes
- Brake booster characteristics have changed due to varying outside temperature
What you can do
- 1Check whether the fault only appears in cold weather, when the cold brake booster is often the cause
- 2Drive the car for a while so that it warms up, then check whether the code returns
- 3If the code remains once the car is warmer, a workshop should read it with diagnostic equipment
- 4The braking system is safety critical: let a workshop decide when the car can be driven normally, and do not work on the brake booster yourself
Symptoms you may notice4
- Traction control does not work
- Hill descent assist does not work
- Hill start assist does not work
- Front monitoring and adaptive cruise control do not work
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
