What does this fault code mean?
On cars with the DSTC stability system, the brake control module (BCM) controls a pre-pressure valve that admits air into the brake booster during stability control and anti-skid, so that brake pressure rises automatically. If the module receives a signal from the valve that it cannot accept as reasonable, the code is set.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connectors or joints
- Wires shorted to ground or to supply voltage
- Incorrectly fitted sensor
- Damaged pre-pressure valve
- Internal fault in the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the connectors at the brake control module and the pre-pressure valve for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Check the wiring to the valve for breaks, chafing and short circuits to ground or supply voltage
- 5Activate the pre-pressure valve with diagnostic equipment and check that its status changes
- 6The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the pre-pressure valve or brake booster yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp on
- Traction control does not work
- Stability function does not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
What the fault can affect1
- Traction control, stability control, active yaw control and brake assistance are blocked
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
