What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has detected a short to battery voltage or an open circuit in the circuit to the wheel speed sensor at the right rear wheel. The sensor is needed for ABS and several stability functions, so these are affected when the signal is missing. The fault most often lies in the wiring, a connector or the sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the supply or signal wire
- Supply wire shorted to ground
- Wires shorted to each other
- Damaged wheel speed sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 3Check the connector at the wheel sensor and at the brake control module for oxidation and contact resistance
- 4Follow the cable from the sensor into the wheel arch and check for breaks, chafing and a short to battery voltage or ground
- 5Check the signal with diagnostic equipment and replace the sensor or wiring as needed
- 6The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the wheel sensor or braking system yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- ABS warning lamp and brake system warning lamp on
- Traction control warning lamp on
- Traction control does not work
- Stability function does not work
- Anti-spin function does not work
What the fault can affect2
- ABS, traction control, stability control and brake assistance can be disabled
- Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked
