What does this fault code mean?
On cars with DSTC, the brake pressure sensor measures the pressure in the braking system and sends the signal to the brake control module (BCM). When the module receives an incorrect signal from the sensor, the code is set and the stability functions may be switched off.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the wires to the pressure sensor
- Wires shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Damaged pressure sensor
- Internal fault in the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the brake control module and the pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the wires between the sensor and the brake control module for breaks and short circuits to ground or supply voltage
- 4Read the pressure with diagnostic equipment while the pedal is pressed, and replace the sensor if it does not follow the pressure
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the hydraulic unit or pressure sensor yourself; leave this to a workshop, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp on
- Anti-spin and stability function do not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
- Electronic parking brake has reduced function
What the fault can affect2
- Traction control, stability control and active yaw control (AYC) are blocked
- Brake assistance can be disabled
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
