What does this fault code mean?

The vacuum pressure sensor in the brake booster gives the brake control module (BCM) a signal about the vacuum pressure. The sensor measures across two chambers, and the signals should agree. When they do not, the module has registered an electrical fault.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
    • Open circuit in the signal wire
    • Signal wire shorted to supply voltage or ground
    • Damaged vacuum pressure sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
    2. 2Check that the battery is in good condition and that the fuses are intact
    3. 3Check the connector at the vacuum sensor and at the brake control module for contact resistance and oxidation
    4. 4Read the vacuum pressures with diagnostic equipment and replace the sensor if it is damaged
    5. 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the brake booster or sensor yourself; leave this to a workshop

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Information lamp lit
    • Yellow warning symbol and message in the display

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
