What does this fault code mean?

The brake control module (BCM) compares the signal from the vacuum pressure sensor in the brake booster with the signal from the brake pressure sensor. When the vacuum signal does not match the brake pressure, the module judges it to be incorrect.

    Possible causes

    • Damaged vacuum pressure sensor
    • Internal fault in the brake control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
    2. 2Start the engine and have a workshop read the vacuum pressures in the brake booster with diagnostic equipment while the brake pedal is pressed
    3. 3If the vacuum pressures do not agree, the vacuum sensor needs replacing by a workshop. If they agree, the fault may have been temporary
    4. 4The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the brake booster yourself; leave this to a workshop, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed
