What does this fault code mean?
The pedal position sensor in the brake booster tells the brake control module (BCM) how far the brake pedal is pressed and how fast it is pressed down. Brake assistance uses this signal during an emergency stop, and when the signal is incorrect, the code is set.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Wires shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Incorrectly fitted sensor
- Damaged pedal position sensor
- Internal fault in the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the brake pedal moves freely and that no object is blocking it
- 3Check the connector at the pedal position sensor and at the brake control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Read the pedal position sensor signal with diagnostic equipment while the pedal is pressed, and check the wiring for breaks and short circuits
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the pedal position sensor or brake booster yourself; leave this to a workshop, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice2
- General warning lamp on
- Brake assistance during hard braking may not work
What the fault can affect1
- Brake assistance (BA) is blocked
