BCM-C004812
VOLVO
BCM-C004812 - Brake Booster Travel Sensor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to battery
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
On the V60, the brake control module (BCM) has detected a short to battery voltage in the circuit to the pedal position sensor in the brake booster. The sensor tells the module how the brake pedal moves, and brake assistance needs the signal during an emergency stop.
Possible causes
- Wires shorted to battery voltage
- Wires shorted to ground
- Break in the wires
- Damaged pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Read the codes in the engine control module and the central electronic module, as the fault may be linked to the brake light circuit
- 3Check the connector at the pedal position sensor and the wiring for chafing and damage where it could touch a live supply
- 4Read the pedal position sensor signal with diagnostic equipment and replace the sensor if it is damaged
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the pedal position sensor or brake booster yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- Brake assistance (BA) is blocked
