What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has registered that the signal from the lateral acceleration sensor in the stability sensor is implausible and does not match the calculated value. The fault may lie in the sensor, its supply, the wheel alignment or interference on the wiring.
Possible causes
- Noise or interference on the wiring that has disturbed the AYC sensor's calculations
- Supply voltage to the AYC sensor too low
- Incorrect wheel alignment
- Stability sensor incorrectly fitted, loose or with a bent bracket
- Internal fault in the AYC sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the AYC sensor and the brake control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Make sure no interference source, such as a mobile phone or radio receiver, is too close to the AYC sensor
- 4Check the wheel alignment and that the stability sensor is firmly fixed and correctly fitted
- 5If the code is intermittent, poor contact or an interference source is the likely cause. If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the sensor after checking
- 6The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the sensor or braking system yourself; leave this to a workshop, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp on
- Anti-spin and stability function do not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
- Cruise control will not engage
What the fault can affect2
- Traction control, stability control and dynamic stability control (AYC) are blocked
- Roll stability control (RSC) is blocked on cars that have it
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
