What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has no signal from the longitudinal acceleration sensor, which is part of the stability sensor. Without it the stability functions cannot assess the car's movement, so they are switched off.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short to ground in the wires to the AYC sensor
- Internal fault in the AYC sensor
- Internal fault in the stability sensor
- Stability sensor for a front-wheel-drive car fitted in an all-wheel-drive car
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the wires to the stability sensor for breaks and short circuits to ground
- 3Check that the correct stability sensor is fitted, particularly if the car is all-wheel drive
- 4Read the sensor status with diagnostic equipment and replace the sensor if it is damaged
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the stability sensor or braking system yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp on
- Anti-spin and stability function do not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect2
- Traction control, stability control and dynamic stability control (AYC) are blocked
- Roll stability control (RSC) is blocked on cars that have it
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
