What does this fault code mean?
On cars with DSTC, the brake control module (BCM) supplies the stability sensor with voltage when the ignition is switched on. If the supply voltage to the AYC sensor falls outside the permitted range, even though the module has not energised it, the code is set.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connectors and joints
- Wires to the AYC sensor's supply shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Break in the wire to the AYC sensor's supply
- Internal fault in the AYC sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car. If the code is intermittent, poor contact is the likely cause
- 2Check the connectors at the brake control module and the AYC sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the supply wire to the sensor for a short to ground or supply voltage, and for breaks
- 4Read the supply voltage with diagnostic equipment and replace the sensor if the supply is in order
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the sensor or braking system yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp on
- Anti-spin function does not work
- Stability function does not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
What the fault can affect1
- Traction control, stability control and dynamic stability control (AYC) are blocked
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
