What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has found that an incorrect variant of stability sensor is fitted in the car. The variants differ depending on whether the car is all-wheel drive or has hill start assist. When the fitted sensor does not match the car's configuration, the stability functions are blocked.
Possible causes
- Wrong variant of stability sensor fitted
- Stability sensor does not match the car's drivetrain or equipment
What you can do
- 1Check which stability sensor is fitted and whether it has recently been replaced
- 2Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 3Have a workshop fit the correct variant of stability sensor and calibrate it afterwards
- 4Until the fault is fixed, take care on uphill and downhill slopes, as the car may start to roll
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the stability sensor yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- Anti-spin indicator lit
- Traction control does not work
- Stability function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
- The car may roll backwards in D on a slope uphill and forwards in R on a slope downhill
What the fault can affect1
- Traction control, stability control and dynamic stability control (AYC) are blocked
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
