BCM-C008216
VOLVO
BCM-C008216 - Brake system malfunction indicator. General electrical malfunction. Voltage too low
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
On the XC90, the brake control module (BCM) has registered that the voltage to it is too low. The module needs a stable voltage to work, and at low voltage the ABS and stability functions may be switched off.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Battery voltage too low
- Fault in the charging system
- Open circuit or short to ground in the supply wire
- Damaged fuse in the circuit
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is charged and that its terminals are tight and clean
- 2Start the engine and let it idle. Check that the voltage is normal, and if it is too low, check the charging system
- 3Check the fuses in the brake system supply
- 4If the fault remains although the voltage is normal, have a workshop check the connector and supply wire to the brake control module
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the brake control module or braking system yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice4
- General warning lamp on
- ABS warning lamp on
- ABS, traction control and stability function do not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
What the fault can affect2
- ABS, traction control, stability control and brake assistance are blocked
- Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked
