What does this fault code mean?
The hill descent control (HDC) receives information from the central electronic module, the engine management and the transmission control module over the data network. When that information is missing, invalid or absent, the brake control module cannot use it, and the function is blocked.
Possible causes
- Interference or temporary breaks on the CAN network
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connectors and joints
- Fault in the central electronic module
- Fault in the engine control module
- Fault in the transmission control module
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronic module, the engine management and the transmission control module, and deal with them first
- 2Check that the battery is in good condition and that the connectors on the data network are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Make sure the wiring is not close to interference sources, such as mobile phones
- 4Trace the data network with diagnostic equipment. Clear this code only once the faults in the other modules are fixed
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the brake control module or the data network yourself; leave this to a workshop
