System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) compares the pressure in the primary and secondary brake circuits. The code appears when the backup brake circuit reads less pressure than the main circuit, which suggests a leak or damage in the hydraulics. The check is run when the ignition is switched on.
Possible causes
- Leak in the brake hydraulic system
- Damage to the hydraulic system, for example a brake line
- Damaged pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Check whether brake fluid is visible under the car or the level in the reservoir has dropped, and look for leaks
- 2Check that the brake lines and connections to the brake control module are undamaged and secure
- 3Repair any leaks or damage and clear the code
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop check or replace the brake control module and recalibrate the sensors
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out all work on the hydraulics and the control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- Hill start assist does not work
- Traction control does not work
- ABS does not work or switches on suddenly
