Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has not received an initialisation from the steering angle sensor (SAS) after start-up, even though the speed has been high enough. The code only applies to cars with DSTC. It often happens when the car has been driven straight ahead for a longer period and the ignition was then switched off without the steering wheel being turned.
Possible causes
- The car was driven straight ahead for a longer period after start-up and the ignition was switched off before the steering angle sensor was initialised
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS)
What you can do
- 1Ask whether the car was driven straight ahead for a long time without the steering wheel being turned before the ignition was switched off, as this may be the cause
- 2If not, read the codes in the steering angle sensor and troubleshoot them accordingly
- 3Turn the steering wheel slightly while the car is running and check whether the fault returns on the next drive
- 4The brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the module
Symptoms you may notice2
- General warning lamp on
- Anti-skid function does not work
What the fault can affect1
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
