What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) supplies the brake pressure sensors and the brake pedal position sensor from a common voltage inside the module. If the voltage to the sensors is wrong, the code is set, which switches off the stability systems and brake assistance. The code only applies to cars with DSTC and can only be confirmed once the test has started.
Possible causes
- Wire shorted to ground
- Wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged sensor
- Damaged brake control module, which is uncommon
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check the connectors at the brake control module and the sensors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the wiring between the module and the sensors for open circuits, chafing and shorts
- 4Road test the car and then read the code without switching the ignition off in between
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the module and the sensors
Symptoms you may notice3
- General warning lamp on
- Traction control, stability function and anti-skid function do not work
- Traction control warning lamp lit
What the fault can affect2
- Stability control, traction control and brake assistance are disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
