VOLVO
BCM-C111301 - Hydraulic valves. General malfunction information. General electrical malfunction
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has found a fault in the control of the hydraulic valves that the ABS, traction control and stability functions use. The fault may be caused by a short or open circuit in the valve circuits, by interference, or by an internal fault in the module. The brake circuit can be affected, so the brakes need checking.
Possible causes
- Short to ground or open circuit in the valve circuits
- Interference that causes the module's calculations to be wrong
- Internal fault in the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Drive carefully and avoid hard braking until the fault is corrected
- 2Check that the connectors at the brake control module are secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Try to activate the hydraulic valves with diagnostic equipment; a clicking sound from the unit should be heard
- 4If the fault remains, a workshop needs to replace the brake control module and programme the new one, as it is supplied without software
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out all work on the hydraulics and the module
Symptoms you may notice4
- ABS warning lamp lit
- Brake circuit warning lamp lit
- ABS, traction control and stability function do not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
What the fault can affect2
- ABS, traction control, stability control and dynamic stability control (AYC) are disabled
- Electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and brake assistance are disabled
