What does this fault code mean?

The brake pedal pressure sensor, which is located in the brake booster, tells the brake control module when the brake pedal is pressed. The module uses the signal to switch off the stability function and brake assistance. The code is set when the signal is missing or too high or too low, and it can only be detected once the test has started.

    Possible causes

    • Break in the signal wire
    • Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
    • Signal wire shorted to ground
    • Damaged pressure sensor
    • Internal fault in the brake control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
    2. 2Where possible, check that the relevant functions work using the switches, controls and a road test
    3. 3Read the brake pedal sensor status with diagnostic equipment and check the wiring for breaks and shorts
    4. 4Correct the fault as needed and clear the code
    5. 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the brake booster and the brake control module

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Adaptive cruise control does not work
    • Cruise control will not engage

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
