What does this fault code mean?

The brake control module (BCM) checks its own configuration ID against the signal set sent out by the CEM. If the two IDs disagree, or if the link to the CEM has been interrupted, the code is set. The module then responds to diagnostic commands, but normal communication does not work.

    Possible causes

    • Incorrect configuration ID, for example a used module with software or hardware not intended for the car
    • Interruption in the CAN wires between the brake control module and the central electronic module

    What you can do

    1. 1Read codes in the central electronic module; if communication fault codes are stored there, troubleshoot those first
    2. 2Check that the correct brake control module is fitted for the car's model and equipment, especially if a used module has been installed
    3. 3Have a workshop measure the CAN wires against ground, against supply voltage and against each other to find damage
    4. 4If no other fault is found, new software can be downloaded to the module
    5. 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out all work on the module and its software
