VOLVO
BCM-U000155 - High Speed CAN Communication Bus. System Programming Failures. Not configured
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–)
What does this fault code mean?
The control modules on the CAN network listen for an identity number that the central electronic module sends out regularly. The brake control module (BCM) has not received the expected number, or its configuration ID does not match the one being sent. It then cannot communicate correctly with the other modules.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in a different module on that section of the CAN network
- Internal fault in the brake control module
- Incorrect configuration ID, for example a used module not intended for the car
- Open circuit in the CAN wires between the brake control module and the central electronic module
What you can do
- 1Read codes in the central electronic module and the other modules; these should be troubleshot first, as this code often follows other communication faults
- 2Check that the correct brake control module is fitted for the car, especially if a used module has been installed
- 3Have a workshop measure the CAN wires against ground, against supply voltage and against each other, looking for damage
- 4Clear the codes only once the other faults have been repaired, and check that the code does not return
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out all work on the network and the module
Symptoms you may notice5
- ABS warning lamp lit and ABS does not work
- Brake circuit warning lamp lit
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Stability function does not work
- Cruise control will not engage
What the fault can affect3
- The brake control module switches itself off and stays off until the power supply is broken and restored
- ABS, stability control and traction control are disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
