BCM-U002888 - Vehicle Communication Bus A. Bus Signal / Message Failures. Bus off
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
6 modelsS60 (2011–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), XC60 (2009–)
What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has lost contact with the airbag system's main unit (SRS) on the local sensor network and has therefore shut down its communication on that network. The fault means incorrect messages are being sent or received between the BCM and the SRS. The cause is most often a short in the wiring, and the code points to starting the troubleshooting in the module that transmits.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to battery supply
- Short circuit to ground
- Fault in the module transmitting incorrect messages
What you can do
- 1Check the wiring on the local sensor network for shorts to supply voltage and to ground
- 2Check the communication between the airbag system's main unit, the crash speed module and the passenger weight sensor where fitted
- 3If no fault is found in the wiring, have a workshop troubleshoot the crash speed module with diagnostic equipment
- 4The airbag and brake systems are safety-critical, so do not work on them yourself and have a workshop carry out all work on the wiring and the modules
Symptoms you may notice5
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Stability function does not work
- Traction control does not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision and brake support do not work
What the fault can affect1
- The brake control module shuts down communication on the local sensor network
