BCM-U010400 - Lost Communication With Forward Sensing Module (FSM). General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) is not receiving signals from the front monitoring module (FSM), or the communication is disturbed. Functions such as adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support and front monitoring may then not work. The fault most often comes from interference or temporary breaks rather than from the brake control module.
Possible causes
- Interference or intermittent breaks on the CAN network
- Fault in the front monitoring module (FSM)
What you can do
- 1Read codes in the central electronic module and any other affected modules, and correct them first
- 2If no codes are stored, check the CAN network wiring and the connectors at the front monitoring module for breaks and contact resistance
- 3Check that the wiring is not routed close to sources of interference, such as mobile phones
- 4Clear the code only once the cause has been corrected, and check that it does not return after a road test
- 5The collision and brake systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the wiring and the modules
Symptoms you may notice5
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
- Collision warning and brake support do not work
- Front monitoring and active safety do not work
- Cruise control will not engage
- The brake pedal needs more force than normal
What the fault can affect3
- Stability control is disabled
- Traction control is disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
