What does this fault code mean?
BCM talks to the stability sensor (BSC) over an internal CAN network. The sensor supplies information about the car's sideways movement and its accelerations forwards and sideways. The code is set when communication with the sensor is disturbed or lost, so the stability function does not receive the data it needs. The fault can only be detected once the test has started.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in one or both CAN wires
- Interference on the wiring
- Damaged stability sensor (BSC)
What you can do
- 1Check the fuses for the brake and stability systems; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Where possible, check that the relevant functions work using the switches, controls and a road test
- 3Read the codes and troubleshoot them according to their information with diagnostic equipment
- 4Check the connectors at the brake control module and the stability sensor for contact resistance and oxidation, and the wiring for breaks
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the sensor and the module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Brake circuit warning lamp lit
- Stability function does not work
- Traction control does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
What the fault can affect3
- Stability control is disabled
- Traction control is disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
