What does this fault code mean?
Communication between the brake control module (BCM) and the stability sensor (BSC) on the internal CAN network has been disturbed, so the brake control module has lost contact with the sensor. The code points to interference, poor contact or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Interference on the wiring
- Damaged stability sensor (BSC)
What you can do
- 1Check the fuses for the brake and stability systems; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Read the codes and troubleshoot them with diagnostic equipment
- 3Check the connectors at the brake control module and the stability sensor for contact resistance and oxidation, and look for sources of interference nearby
- 4Road test the car and read the code without switching the ignition off, to see whether it is permanent or intermittent
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the sensor and the module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Stability function does not work
- Traction control does not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
What the fault can affect2
- Stability control and traction control are disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
