BCM-U013100 - Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module (PSCM). General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) is not in contact with the power steering control module (PSCM) on the CAN network. The fault may be caused by a break in the power supply or earth to the PSCM, poor contact, or the wrong module being fitted. The code mainly applies to cars with electric power steering.
Possible causes
- No power supply to the power steering control module
- Open circuit in the earth wire to the power steering control module
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit or short circuit in the CAN wiring
- Power steering control module not intended for the car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Check that the power steering fuse and the power supply are intact, and that the connectors in the relay and fuse box in the engine bay are secure
- 2Check that the earth wire to the power steering module has no break or short to supply voltage, and that the earth point is secure and free from oxidation
- 3Check that the correct power steering module is fitted in the car
- 4Check the CAN wiring for breaks and shorts
- 5Steering is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the power steering and the brake system
Symptoms you may notice1
- Problems with steering or with the handling of the car
