What does this fault code mean?

The brake control module (BCM) is not in contact with the all-wheel drive control module (DEM) because of interference or intermittent breaks on the CAN network. The fault is tested during normal driving, and the stability and traction functions may then be affected.

    Possible causes

    • Interference or intermittent breaks on the CAN network
    • Fault in the all-wheel drive control module (DEM)

    What you can do

    1. 1Read codes in the central electronic module and any other affected modules first, and correct them before this code is cleared
    2. 2Check the wiring and connections on the CAN network for breaks and damage
    3. 3Check that the wiring is not routed too close to sources of interference, such as mobile phones
    4. 4Clear the code only once the cause has been corrected, and check that it does not return after a road test
    5. 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the wiring and the modules

    Symptoms you may notice5

    • Traction control warning lamp lit
    • Stability function does not work
    • Traction control does not work
    • Anti-skid function does not work
    • Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work

    What the fault can affect3

    • Stability control is disabled
    • Traction control is disabled
    • Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
