What does this fault code mean?
The BCM relies on the pedestrian protection module (PPM) for necessary information over the CAN network. The code is set when communication with the PPM is disturbed or lost. The fault is usually not noticed by the driver.
Possible causes
- Break in the communication wire
- Communication wire shorted to ground
- Communication wire shorted to supply voltage
- Contact resistance, oxidation or breaks in connections
What you can do
- 1Make sure the fuse for the pedestrian protection module is intact
- 2Check the connectors and connections in the relay and fuse box in the engine bay and at the pedestrian protection module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the power supply wire to the module for breaks and shorts to ground, and check the earth wire
- 4The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the wiring and the modules
