What does this fault code mean?
The BCM checks its own configuration ID against the one sent by the CEM over the CAN network. If the IDs do not match, or if communication with the CEM has been interrupted, the code is set. The module then responds to diagnostic commands, but normal communication does not work.
Possible causes
- Incorrect configuration ID in the brake control module, for example a used module with software or hardware not intended for the car
- Break in the CAN wires between the brake control module and the central electronic module
What you can do
- 1Read codes in the central electronic module; if it shows a loss of power supply to a module, troubleshoot that module first
- 2Check that the correct brake control module is fitted for the car, especially if a used module has been installed
- 3Check the CAN wiring between the brake control module and the central electronic module for breaks and contact resistance
- 4Have a workshop program the brake control module with the correct software and check that the code is not set again
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out all work on the module and its software
Symptoms you may notice5
- ABS warning lamp lit
- Brake circuit warning lamp lit
- Stability, traction and anti-skid functions do not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support do not work
- Message in the text display
What the fault can affect3
- The module switches itself off and responds only to diagnostic commands
- Locking-free brakes, stability control and traction control are disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
