What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) is supplied by the manufacturer with special software used at the factory to fill the brake system with hydraulic fluid. After the module is fitted in the car, that software must be overwritten with the correct software. The code is set if this has not been done, and the flashing warning lamps show that the system is not ready.
Possible causes
- Incorrect software has been downloaded to the module, because the supplier's software has not been overwritten
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop read the code and confirm that incorrect software has been downloaded
- 2Reprogram the brake control module with the latest software following the workshop procedure
- 3After programming, check that the warning lamps go out and that the code is not set again
- 4The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out all programming and checks of the brake system
Symptoms you may notice3
- ABS and traction control lamps flashing
- ABS warning lamp shows a fault
- Traction and anti-skid warning lamp shows a fault
What the fault can affect2
- Locking-free brakes are disabled, as ABS is blocked
- Electronic brake force distribution is disabled
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
