What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has received a signal from the engine control module (ECM) stating that the information it sends cannot be relied on, and has therefore set the code. The fault therefore lies in the engine management and not in the brake module. The stability functions may be affected for as long as the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Fault in the engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read codes in the engine control module and troubleshoot them first
- 2Do not replace the brake control module for this code, as the fault lies in the engine management
- 3Clear the code only once the engine management has been troubleshot, and check that it does not return
- 4The brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the engine management and the brake control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Traction and anti-skid warning lamp lit
- Stability function does not work
- Traction control does not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
What the fault can affect3
- Stability control is disabled
- Traction control is disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
