BCM-U042200 - Invalid Data Received From Central electronic module. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsV40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) receives a global time signal from the central electronic module (CEM) on the CAN network, and when the quality of that signal is too low it is treated as a fault. The code is set at ignition on, and then hill start assist may not work. The fault most often lies in the wiring or in the CEM.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Defect inside the CEM
- Internal fault in another module on the same section of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read codes in the central electronic module and other affected modules, and correct them first
- 2Have a workshop measure the resistance in the CAN wires against ground and supply voltage and look for shorts and breaks
- 3Check that the wiring is not routed close to sources of interference, such as mobile phones
- 4Clear the code only once the cause has been corrected, and check that it does not return
- 5The brake system is safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the network and the modules
Symptoms you may notice1
- Hill start assist does not work
