BCM-U042829
VOLVO
BCM-U042829 - Invalid data received from steering angle sensor module (SAS). General signal error. Signal invalid
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering angle sensor control module (SAS) sends data to the brake control module (BCM) in small packets, and each packet carries an ID number. The code is set when the BCM receives an ID number it does not expect.
Possible causes
- Interference or intermittent breaks on the CAN network
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor control module (SAS)
What you can do
- 1If the code was set during programming of the brake control module, clear it and check that it does not return
- 2Read codes in the central electronic module and troubleshoot any codes there first
- 3Check the connectors at the brake control module and the steering angle sensor for contact resistance and oxidation, and keep the wiring away from sources of interference such as mobile phones
- 4If no fault is found, have a workshop replace the steering angle sensor
- 5The brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the modules
Symptoms you may notice4
- General warning lamp on
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Stability function does not work
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect3
- Traction control is disabled
- Stability control is disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
