What does this fault code mean?

The brake control module (BCM) is waiting for the steering angle sensor to be initialised, which happens when the steering wheel is turned a little. If initialisation has not taken place after a longer drive at a sufficient speed, and the brake module then calculates a wrong steering angle, the code is set. It most often applies when the driver has driven for a long time without turning the wheel.

    Possible causes

    • The driver has driven for a long time with an uninitialised steering angle sensor after start-up
    • Fault in the steering angle sensor control module (SAS)

    What you can do

    1. 1Think back on whether the car has been driven for a long time without the steering wheel being turned after start-up, as this may be the cause
    2. 2If other codes are stored in the steering angle sensor, troubleshoot them first
    3. 3Turn the steering wheel a little while driving so the sensor initialises, then clear the code
    4. 4The brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the steering angle sensor and the modules

    Symptoms you may notice5

    • Traction and anti-skid warning lamp lit
    • Stability function does not work
    • Traction control does not work
    • Anti-skid function does not work
    • Adaptive cruise control does not work

    What the fault can affect3

    • Stability control is disabled
    • Traction control is disabled
    • Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
