What does this fault code mean?
At each new ignition cycle the brake control module (BCM) compares the steering angle from the steering angle sensor with a calculated value. The code is set when the difference between the two values is too large, which most often happens when the steering angle sensor has not been initialised during a longer drive. It applies to cars with a stability system and can be set when stability has been regulated for too long.
Possible causes
- The driver has driven for a long time with an uninitialised steering angle sensor after start-up
- The driver drove with an uninitialised steering angle sensor and then switched the ignition off
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor control module (SAS)
What you can do
- 1If other codes are stored in the module, troubleshoot them first
- 2Check the front wheel alignment and have a workshop adjust it if needed
- 3Think back on whether the car has been driven for a long time without the steering wheel being turned after start-up
- 4The brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the steering angle sensor and the brake control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Traction and anti-skid warning lamp lit
- Stability function does not work
- Traction control does not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
What the fault can affect3
- Stability control is disabled
- Traction control is disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
