What does this fault code mean?
The steering angle sensor control module (SAS) sends out information on the CAN network that the brake control module (BCM) uses in several brake functions. The BCM compares the signal with a reference value calculated from the wheel sensors, the yaw rate sensor and the lateral accelerometer. The code is set when the signal does not match the reference, most often because of the front alignment or a damaged steering angle sensor.
Possible causes
- Incorrect front wheel alignment
- Damaged steering angle sensor
What you can do
- 1Read codes in the steering angle sensor, the wheel sensors and the yaw rate sensor, and troubleshoot them first
- 2Check the front wheel alignment before checking the steering angle, and have a workshop adjust it if needed
- 3Set the steering wheel straight and read the angle with diagnostic equipment; turn the wheel both ways and check the values match
- 4When the angle reading disagrees with the wheel position, have a workshop zero the angle and calibrate the stability system
- 5The brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out all calibration and adjustment
Symptoms you may notice5
- Traction and anti-skid warning lamp lit
- Stability function does not work
- Traction control does not work
- Anti-skid function does not work
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
What the fault can affect3
- Stability control is disabled
- Traction control is disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
