What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named battery voltage, it concerns the steering angle sensor signal. The brake control module (BCM) has received a steering angle signal over the data network (CAN) that is outside the plausible range, which points to a problem with the steering angle sensor or communication with it. This can affect the stability functions.
Possible causes
- Break in the CAN bus
- Fault in the steering angle sensor module (SAS)
What you can do
- 1Read codes in the steering angle sensor module and troubleshoot them first
- 2Check the CAN wiring for breaks and contact resistance
- 3Do not replace the brake control module for this code, as the fault lies in another module
- 4The brake and stability systems are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out any work on the wiring and the modules
Symptoms you may notice1
- No clear symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect3
- Stability control is disabled
- Traction control is disabled
- Dynamic stability control (AYC) is disabled
