System
Battery Energy Control Module (BECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The cooling loop for the battery runs through an expansion tank with a level sensor, which BECM watches over. The signal from the level sensor shows that the coolant level is too low. The code may also be caused by a damaged sensor or an open circuit in the signal cable.
Possible causes
- Coolant level too low
- Poor contact or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal cable from the level sensor
- The level sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Check the coolant level in the expansion tank and top up if needed
- 2Look for leaks in the cooling loop, such as damp patches or traces of coolant under the car
- 3Has the coolant recently been changed or topped up, or has the cooling loop been opened for work?
- 4If the level is low, temperature related fault codes in the BECM do not need to be remedied until the coolant level is correct
- 5Have a workshop check the level sensor, the connectors and the signal cable for an open circuit
- 6The high voltage system should only be handled by qualified personnel, so have a workshop carry out all work on the battery and other high voltage parts
Symptoms you may notice1
- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
