Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The battery energy control module (BECM) in the plug-in hybrid has detected too low a signal from one of the temperature sensors in the high-voltage battery. The battery is made up of several modules with their own temperature sensors. If similar codes are set for several modules, the battery has most likely been exposed to very high heat.
Possible causes
- The high-voltage battery has been exposed to extremely high temperature, which may have shortened its life
- Damaged high-voltage battery or a damaged temperature sensor in the battery module
What you can do
- 1Check whether similar codes are stored for several battery modules – if so, the battery has probably been exposed to extreme heat
- 2Let the car cool down and avoid charging until the fault has been investigated
- 3Never work on the high-voltage battery yourself – it must only be handled by qualified personnel
- 4Have a workshop qualified for high-voltage work check the battery
Symptoms you may notice4
- Red warning symbol and message in the display
- The high-voltage battery does not charge or runs flat
- Electric and other drive modes become unavailable and the combustion engine runs all the time
- Charging warning and problems with the 12-volt battery can occur
What the fault can affect2
- The high-voltage battery cannot be charged
- The car cannot be driven electrically
