Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The climate control module (CCM) has registered that the signal from the cabin blower motor is too high. The blower motor does not start, and the A/C compressor must stay off as long as the fault remains.
Possible causes
- The fan motor is blocked
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the fan motor
- Open circuit in the ground wire to the fan motor
- The ground wire to the fan motor is short-circuited to voltage
- The control signal wire is short-circuited to ground
- The fan motor or its power unit is faulty
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and road test to check whether it returns
- 2Look for anything blocking the fan, and feel by hand whether the fan rotor turns freely
- 3Turn the cabin blower knob to maximum fan speed and listen for whether the fan starts
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the blower motor in the activation function and listen for it to start
- 5Disconnect the fan motor connector and use a multimeter to check that the wires have no contact with voltage or ground
Symptoms you may notice3
- The cabin blower does not work
- Airflow problems
- No cooling from the A/C system
What the fault can affect2
- As long as the fault remains, the fan motor does not start
- The A/C compressor must stay off
