Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
On cars with electronic climate control (ECC), the control module has received too high a signal from the sun sensor. Since the sensor does not give a usable value, the control module instead works from a stand-in value for solar load, so the cabin does not cool properly when the sun is strong.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose contacts in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire linking the control module to the sun sensor
- Signal wire linking the control module to the sun sensor shorted to live voltage
- Ground wire linking the control module to the sun sensor shorted to live voltage
- Open circuit in the ground wire linking the control module to the sun sensor
- Defective sun sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, cover the sun sensor with your hand and check that the value on the climate panel drops
- 2Then hold a strong light, such as a torch, close to the sun sensor and check that the value rises
- 3Check the contacts at the sun sensor and at the control module for looseness, damage or corrosion
- 4Check the wiring for chafing and crushed areas
- 5Use a multimeter to check the signal and ground wires to the sun sensor for contact with live voltage or ground (the body)
- 6If the wiring is fine, have a workshop replace the sun sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cabin does not cool down when the solar load is high
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a stand-in value for solar load instead of the measured one
