Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
On cars with electronic climate control (ECC), the fault is only registered with the ignition on. The sun sensor reports too little signal, so the control module thinks there is less sunlight than there really is. The cabin then does not cool enough when the sun is strong.
Possible causes
- Defective sun sensor
- Signal wire linking the control module to the sun sensor shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, cover the sun sensor with your hand and check that the value falls
- 2Hold a strong light, such as a torch, close to the sun sensor and check that the value rises
- 3Check the wiring linking the control module to the sun sensor for chafing and crushed areas
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground (the body). If it does, have a workshop repair the wire
- 5If no fault is found in the wire, have a workshop replace the sun sensor
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the sensor value in live data while you affect the sensor and check the value changes
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cabin temperature does not drop when sun intensity is high
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a stand-in value for solar load instead of the measured one
