What does this fault code mean?
The fault is logged as intermittent, meaning the position sensor for the air distribution damper motor gave too low a signal at an earlier point but is not present now. Because the fault does not stay, it is usually a loose or corroded connector, or a chafed wiring harness, that causes the disturbance.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation at the connection
- Open circuit in the supply wire for the position sensor
- Open circuit in the signal wire from the position sensor
- Supply to the position sensor shorted to ground
- Signal wire from the position sensor shorted to ground
- Defective damper motor
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the damper motor and at the control module for contact resistance, oxidation and play
- 3Check the wiring for chafing and crushed areas
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply and signal wires to the position sensor have no contact with ground (the body). If something is wrong, have a workshop repair the wire
- 5If the wiring is intact but the fault returns, have a workshop replace the damper motor
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the damper position in live data while turning the control and check that it changes smoothly
