Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module has received too weak a signal from the temperature damper motor on the driver side. The damper controls how much warm and cold air enters the left side of the cabin, so that side may get the wrong temperature or ignore the control.
Possible causes
- Signal wire linking the control module to the damper motor shorted to live voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire linking the control module to the damper motor
- Contact resistance, oxidation or play in the connectors
- Defective damper motor
What you can do
- 1With the engine running and the blower on, turn the left-hand control from max to min and check that the air on the left side changes temperature
- 2Check which type of climate control the car has (electronic, ECC, or manual, MCC/STD) before going further
- 3Check the connectors at the left and right temperature damper motors for loose contacts and damage
- 4Check the wiring between the left and right temperature damper motors for chafing and crushed areas
- 5If the connectors and wiring are in order but the fault remains, have a workshop check the signal wire and replace the damper motor if needed
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the damper position in live data while turning the control and check that it changes smoothly
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cabin temperature does not follow the value you have set
