What does this fault code mean?

The control module has found a fault in the heater pad of the right seat heater. The control module talks to the right-hand seat heating module over an internal bus. The fault is probably an open circuit, or a short to supply voltage or ground, in the wiring between the module and the heater pad. The right front seat heater then cannot be activated.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the wire running from the seat heating module and the heater pad
    • Cable linking the seat heating module to the heater pad shorted to live voltage
    • Cable linking the seat heating module to the heater pad shorted to ground

    What you can do

    1. 1With the ignition on, check the connectors at the seat heating module and the heater pad for contact resistance, oxidation and loose contacts
    2. 2Check the heating wires in the seat and backrest for damage. With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check whether the wire touches ground (the body) or live voltage
    3. 3Remedy anything found and clear the fault code
    4. 4Have a workshop carry out the other measurements on the seat heater circuit and replace the heater pad if it is defective
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the seat heater from the activation function and check that the seat gets warm

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • The front seat heating does not work

    What the fault can affect1

    • The control module does not allow the seat heater to be switched on

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
