This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The climate control module has found an internal fault in the damper motor for recirculation. The flap ends up in a different position from the one the module requests, so recirculation may go wrong. Sometimes the fault shows up as an unusual smell from the ventilation.
Possible causes
- Fault inside the damper motor module (DMM) for recirculation
What you can do
- 1Check that the climate control fuses are intact and that the connector to the damper motor is firmly seated
- 2Switch between recirculation and outside air a few times and listen for the flap moving
- 3Clear the code and test drive the car. If the fault is intermittent it may be hard to reproduce, so note when the smell appears
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the recirculation flap position in live data while you switch between recirculation and outside air. The position should follow the selection
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop replace the recirculation damper motor and calibrate it
Symptoms you may notice1
- Unusual smell from the climate control system
