What does this fault code mean?
The climate control module has received a signal that is too high from the outside temperature sensor on cars with electronic climate control (ECC). The fault is intermittent and has occurred earlier without being present now. Because the signal is wrong, the cabin temperature may end up differing from the selected setting.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal or ground cable
- The signal or ground cable is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Defective outside temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to the outside temperature sensor is firmly seated and that the contacts are not corroded
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal and ground cables have no open circuit
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cables are not live when the ignition is off
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the outside temperature in live data and check whether the value changes after the car has been driven for a while
- 5If the fault returns even though the wiring is intact, have a workshop replace the outside temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cabin temperature does not match the selected setting
What the fault can affect1
- The system uses the outside temperature that was last stored
