What does this fault code mean?

The climate control module (CCM) monitors a signal from the blower fan motor and has registered that it is too low. The fault means the control module is not getting the signal it expects from the fan. While the fault remains the fan will not start, and without the blower the airflow and cooling from the A/C system are lost.

    Possible causes

    • Signal wire to the motor shorted to ground
    • Control signal wire shorted to battery voltage
    • Open circuit in the diagnostic signal wire
    • Diagnostic signal wire shorted to ground
    • Defective blower fan motor or power unit

    What you can do

    1. 1With the ignition on, turn the fan control to its highest and then lowest speed and see whether the fan runs
    2. 2Check the fuse for the climate control module supply. If it has blown, check the circuit for a short to ground before a new fuse is fitted
    3. 3Disconnect the connector to the fan motor power unit before measuring on the wiring, as the power unit does not tolerate short circuits and overcurrent well
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal and control wires to the fan motor have no contact with ground (the body) or with the battery supply
    5. 5Check that the connectors at the fan motor and the climate control module are firmly seated and free from oxidation
    6. 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the fan motor and power unit

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • The blower fan does not work
    • Airflow problem
    • No cooling from the A/C system

    What the fault can affect2

    • While the fault persists, the control module keeps the fan motor from starting
    • The A/C compressor cannot start
