What does this fault code mean?

The climate control module (CCM) receives status and current temperature from the seat heating module and has registered that the heating element in the right rear seat is not working. The fault lies in the wire between the seat heating module and the heating element, which may be broken or short-circuited to ground or voltage. The heat in the right rear seat then fails to come on.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the wire between the seat heating module (SHM) and the heating element
    • Short to ground in the wire from the seat heating module (SHM) to the heating element
    • Short to voltage in the wire from the seat heating module (SHM) to the heating element
    • Open circuit in the wire from the right rear seat (SHMRR) to the heating element
    • Short to ground in the wire from the right rear seat (SHMRR) to the heating element
    • Short to voltage in the wire from the right rear seat (SHMRR) to the heating element

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact, especially the fuse for the seat heating
    2. 2With the engine running, switch on the right rear seat heating and feel whether the seat becomes warm within a short while
    3. 3Inspect the wiring to the right rear seat for chafing, crushing and broken wires, especially where it moves when the seat is adjusted
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the heating element is not broken and has no contact with ground (the body) or with voltage
    5. 5With diagnostic equipment, follow the status and current temperature of the right rear seat heating in live data while the heat is switched on and off
    6. 6If the wire is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop replace the heating element in the seat

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • The electric heating in the rear seat does not work
    • The rear seat heating does not work or gets too hot

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
