CCM-E001 - Control module communication. Faulty communication
System
Climate Control Module (CCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The control modules in the car communicate over the CAN network. The climate control module (CCM) registers a serious fault in the CAN communication, so it is blocked. If the power supply is still on, the climate control module can keep working for a short time after the key is removed.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the control module
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- If CAN communication is missing but the power supply stays on, the climate control module keeps working for a while (limp-home)
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is charged and that the battery terminals are clean and tight
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in all control modules and note which ones show communication faults
- 4Leave the CEM in place for a CAN fault unless troubleshooting shows it is faulty
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the CAN network resistance and traffic
Symptoms you may notice5
- The climate control system works even after the key has been removed
- The bottom button row of the climate system does not work
- The air conditioning compressor does not start or runs sporadically
- Mist on the windows and/or the outside mirrors
- The central locking does not lock to the deadlock position
What the fault can affect2
- The control module shuts itself off (bus-off) and stays off until the power supply is broken
- At the next power-on the control module tries to communicate again
